Wintering and Resident Bird Survey – In some parts of Texas, nearly half of the bird species are found only during cooler months, which is why we offer this birding survey beginning the first of November. Designed to complement our Spring Breeding Bird Census (BBC), this winter survey provides valuable information on bird population dynamics. This is a great opportunity to learn which birds are utilizing your property during the winter months. Additionally, you can use the information to identify important wintering habitats, track population trends, and create management plans for year-round use. And, like our Spring survey, the Wintering and Resident Bird Survey is a qualifying activity for your Wildlife valuation. As always, our surveys are conducted by a wildlife biologist and, of course, the landowner is invited to come along.
Breeding Bird Census – Enjoy a guided bird tour of your property with a professional, expert birder. The BBC is conducted on the property during the breeding season -- approximately mid-March through early-June. These popular surveys begin at sunrise for the "morning chorus" and give you the opportunity to walk your land accompanied by a skilled birdwatcher. This is a fantastic learning experience, not only with information about birds, but you can learn more about your land as well.
Spotlight Deer Counts – Managing deer numbers is the key to producing the best quality deer and the best available habitat for other wildlife. A Spotlight Deer Count is a useful tool to help estimate white-tailed deer populations for the purposes of managing deer numbers through responsible hunting, as well as providing a demonstration to the Central Appraisal District that your deer harvest efforts are having the intended effect. It is essential that proper protocols are followed each year to generate useful numbers for determining harvest levels and meeting deer management goals. Landowners are welcomed to assist in the count!
Remote Camera Surveys – A widely used and exciting tool for estimating deer numbers and population characteristics, Remote Camera Surveys are particularly well-suited to smaller properties or other properties where Spotlight Deer Counts do not fare as well. Our high-tech game cameras are placed at established feeding stations or bait sites where white-tailed deer congregate. After hundreds of photos are taken, our biologists analyze each and every one to determine population levels, buck age structure and quality, and harvest recommendations. A complete photo record of the deer and other wildlife that use the feed stations on your property are provided to you with the report. If you already own cameras, we can even analyze the photos you take following our survey protocol.
