New! Wintering and Resident Bird Survey

$525

Beginning in November Plateau is offering a new birding survey- Wintering and Resident Birds.  In some parts of Texas nearly half of the bird species are found only during cooler months.  Designed to complement our  Spring Breeding Songbird survey, this will provide valuable information on bird population dynamics.  Like our Spring survey, the Wintering and Resident bird survey is qualifying activity for your Wildlife valuation.  Download PDF

Breeding Bird Census (BBC)

$525

Enjoy a guided bird tour of your property with a professional, expert birder. The BBC is conducted on the property during the breeding season - approximately mid-March through early-June.  The birder will begin the survey at sunrise for the "morning chorus" and is to be completed before 11:00 a.m.  A map of the property is provided, indicating the property boundaries and census stations.  Each station is accompanied by a description of the existing habitat present.  Unless property boundaries or accessibility changes, an annual survey using the same stations will be used in all subsequent years.  The birder will identify bird species by both sound & sight.  Landowners are encouraged to accompany the birder for the educational and recreation value afforded by the birding experience.

Spotlight Deer Census Counts

$1,495.00 (incl. mileage & drive time)

A total of 3 Spotlight Surveys are conducted between August & October. Your property must have at least 3 miles of driveable road.  Counts will determine overall deer population (density), buck:doe ratio, and doe:fawn ratio.  The final report will make general deer harvest recommendations. Landowners are welcomed to assist in the count. This method can also be used for exotic deer

Daylight Wildlife Counts

$575 each  -OR-

$1,700 for 4 counts conducted seasonally (1 per season)

This census is a great way to create a checklist of all the animals using your property. All efforts are made to identify any animals or animal sign encountered on the property while surveying a series of stations and traveling between stations. This census may be done any time of the year.  You will receive a report that lists the kinds and numbers of animals seen at each station and the habitat that was present at each station. We will attempt to make note of all mammals, birds, reptiles, butterflies, and any other common insects. To get a complete picture of the kinds and amounts of animals utilizing your property the count should be done once a season. However, only 1 count per year is required for this survey to count as a wildlife practice.

Exotic Cruise Surveys

$1,095 (total)

This survey is a daylight version of the spotlight count. If you own a ranch with at least 3 miles of drivable road and notable populations of various species of exotic deer, then this is the best survey for your exotic population. Unlike the Spotlight Survey this survey can be done anytime of the year. Counts will determine the following measures by species; overall deer population (density), buck:doe ratio, and doe:fawn ratio.  The final report will make general deer harvest recommendations. Landowners are welcomed to assist in the count.
