Biography: David
Braun, J.D.
David Braun is a
land conservation attorney dedicated to helping clients
create value in environmentally sensitive land. His
firm, Braun & Associates, uses conservation easements,
deed restrictions, mitigation banks, and other similar
approaches in tax, real estate and regulatory law to assist
clients who are committed to holding open space land.
Braun & Associates frequently teams with other law firms,
accounting firms and other consultants to bring the best
service to clients. He is also co-founder, Chairman and
CEO of Plateau Integrated Land and Wildlife Management
Company, which provides ecological services and property tax
consulting to similar clients.
In addition to
sixteen years as an attorney, David Braun also has
twenty-five years of experience leading non-profit
organizations as an employee and a volunteer. From 1988
until 1995, David served as Director of The Nature
Conservancy of Texas. Over that period, he managed a ten-fold
growth in revenues, the opening of eight new offices across
Texas, the addition of 50 new staff, the acquisition of up to
$10,000,000 annually in real estate, and the creation of a
new conservation program for Mexico.
In the
environmental arena, known for clashes between polarized
factions, David has built a reputation as a skilled consensus
and coalition-builder. In 1987 and 1988, he staffed a
committee that raised funds to open the Texas office of the
Environmental Defense Fund. Since returning to private
practice, David has served on the boards of the Texas Audubon
Society and the Westcave Preserve.
David is a
graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. He began
his legal career as a staff attorney for the Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department. He also holds an undergraduate degree in
biochemistry from the University of Texas and has worked
throughout Mexico and Central America as a field
biologist.
