Wildlife Friendly Land Improvement and Development

● Nature Trails ● Observation Platforms ● Site Layout ● Conservation Developments

Whether you are a landowner desiring to add amenities to your property or a developer looking to build a conservation minded community, Plateau’s Conservation Construction (PCC) division is ready to assist.  When you engage PCC for your project, master’s level biologists are part of the team from the start and help identify important ecological features and ecosystems.  Protection of these features drives the project, while our professional approach to project management keeps things on-time and on-budget.

For the private landowner PCC offers a variety of services.  We design and build nature trails, wildlife friendly water features, and wildlife viewing structures.  We work with you to design these valuable additions to your property and then manage the construction from start to finish.  If you are just starting out or wish to overhaul your property, we can assist with site layout and structure orientation to maximize enjoyment and minimize both operating and construction costs and the impact to your land.

One of our most exciting projects to date is the site design for the conservation development Alsace de Tejas, located on 375 acres outside of Castroville, west of San Antonio in Medina County. Initially planning to spread 40 seven to ten acre lots throughout the property, developers Bobby Moore and Larry Corbin were intrigued by the idea of clustering those same 40 house sites on only 60 acres, leaving 84% of the property, or more than 300 acres, as open space to be managed for native wildlife. Historic wetlands will be reconstructed, with viewing blinds situated nearby. Hiking trails throughout will allow access to all areas of the property, and also to the proposed 12 mile BMA Canal hiking and biking trail system which will run along one edge of the property. Public response has been overwhelmingly positive; read more from the San Antonio Express News here and here.

Mike Ridley, Director of Conservation Construction, comes to us from Ridley Development Management, and brings over 35 years of construction and land development expertise to the team. For the last six years, Mike has been working to implement conservation development concepts in the Hill Country. After Mike hired Plateau as a consultant on several projects, both companies recognized the enormous potential possible through collaboration, and in February of 2007, Mike agreed to join Plateau. Cathy Ramsey, Conservation Construction Associate, brings experience in green building and native landscaping to the group. We are very excited to have them on board. We can now offer our clients the expertise to fulfill their vision for their properties in the most environmentally conscientious manner, tying together sound science and highly competent construction experience.
